Coring
What is Coring?
Taking concrete cores prior to installing new flooring is an important step in new construction, remodeling projects, and flooring failures. They provide a valuable snapshot of what lies beneath the surface.
At FloorMedics, we have been fine-tuning and perfecting our coring process. We can provide them directly to our clients for their use. But, more often, we ship them directly to a third-party laboratory of your choice with a chain of the custody document.
These cores are used for analysis of flooring failures and can be used for testing properties such as adhesives, contaminants, bond strength of flooring materials, concrete strength, permeability, and chemical analysis.
For new projects, the cores are a preemptive strike prior to installation to help ensure a floor failure doesn’t happen. For example, the laboratory can identify Alkali-Silica Reaction (ASR), which is the premature deterioration of concrete. Some materials used for installation can speed up that process which could lead to a concrete and flooring failure.
Having that information can help make the important decisions for a successful flooring project.
